Mayor Beresford’s July council meeting wrap-up
Tyre Recycling
Paroo Shire Council is part of the South West Regional Waste Management Group. Through the group’s efforts Council received funding under the Regional Recycling Transport Assistance Program towards engaging tyre recycling firm ATP (Australian Tyre Processors) to remove end-of-life tyres from the Cunnamulla Refuse site. The firm were onsite last week and shredded approximately 200 tonne of tyres which will be recycled into road building material and fuel for an asphalt manufacturer. Some larger truck tyres which couldn’t be shredded on site, were also trucked out for processing.
Hot Springs & Riverwalk Project
Following a recommendation from the Steering Committee, Council resolved to accept Expressions of Interest from four architectural firms who will now progress to the tender stage of submitting a concept design for the Hot Springs & Riverwalk Project. There was a lot of interest in the project with Council receiving 33 applications. As part of the next stage the four firms selected will visit Paroo Shire to review the site in order to prepare their overall proposal for the precinct. Council anticipates receiving the tenders within the next six weeks and will then select the final design concept. Consultation with the community to allow further input into the design will then take place before proceeding to the next stage of the development.
Show Holiday 2021
After consultation with the Cunnamulla Show Society, it was resolved that Council apply to the State Government for Ministerial approval to appoint a Show holiday on the Friday of the show weekend in May, 2021.
