2022 Cunnamulla Show Holiday

The Council will apply to the State Government to have Friday 20th May, 2022 included as a Public Holiday for the Cunnamulla Show.  The Cunnamulla Show Society President has confirmed next year’s show will be held on Saturday 21st May and they are supportive of the public holiday remaining on the day before to assist both exhibitors and the Show Committee with preparations.

Cunnamulla Hot Springs & Riverwalk – Stage 2

Our application for funding to provide a pontoon, jetty and Warrego boat cruise as an extension to the Cunnamulla Hot Springs & Riverwalk project has been approved.  The Federal Government will provide $943,474 for this major tourism boost to Cunnamulla and the shire by the construction of a jetty and pontoon on the Warrego River close by the Hot Springs & Riverwalk attraction and the purchase of a vessel for river cruise tours.  The project will create new jobs as it is delivered as well as ongoing employment opportunities, increasing our capacity to diversify and strengthen our local economy.

Selective Inspection Program

Approval has been given for Paroo Shire authorised officers to carry out a Selective Inspection Program to monitor compliance with the Animal Management (Cats & Dogs) Act 2008 regarding registered and regulated dog provisions.    The program will commence on 1st September and conclude on 24th November, 2021 and will be advertised prior to commencement so residents of Cunnamulla, Eulo, Yowah and Wyandra are aware that property inspections may occur in relation to unregistered or regulated dogs during that timeframe.

Works Completed

Maintenance grading has been carried out on the town streets in Eulo and Wyandra and has commenced on the Humeburn Road.   Other maintenance work has included pot-hole patching on the Jobs Gate Road and fire breaks at various sites.   Work on DTMR roads has included completing work on the Hungerford Road, fire breaks, replacement of signs and guideposts and slashing on main roads was completed.   Sections of Broad Street and Pitherty Road have also been sealed and completed under Roads to Recovery funding.

All submissions for roadworks under the 2020 Flood Damage Program have been approved and the work packages awarded to local contractors so this extensive program of roadwork repairs will continue into the 2021/2022 year.

Regional Partnerships Project

Councillors took the opportunity at this month’s Council meeting to view some videos that have been taken of the skilled migrants already living and working in our shire.   The videos form part of the work being undertaken over a three year period to encourage skilled migrants to consider moving to the Paroo Shire and will be uploaded to a website being developed as part of the project.    A theme that comes through the video narratives is the helpfulness and support given by the local community, the way in which the community embraces newcomers, the work opportunities available and the safe, relaxed lifestyle.
