Mayor Beresford’s October 2024 Council Meeting Wrap-up

The October Council meeting was held on Tuesday 15th October. The following are a few of the items addressed at the meeting.

 

Community Grant Applications Approved

• HOPE Deadly Recruits – waive fees for 1 coldroom and 2 portaloos delivered to and collected from Tinnenburra on June 20-27, 2025

• Dingoes Rugby Union Club – grant of $2,900 towards annual rugby match and waive fees for John Kerr Park on October 25 & 26, 2024

 

RADF Applications Approved

• Silversmithing workshop with Rodney Hammond

• Noosa Film Academy for workshop at Cunnamulla State School

• Wire & Rust workshop at Wyandra

• Pastel workshops at Yowah and Cunnamulla

 

End of Year Closedown

The Council offices and libraries will be closed from 4.30pm on Friday 20th December 2024 and re-open on Monday 6th January 2025.

The Council outdoor employees will commence leave on Monday 16th December 2024 and recommence work on Monday 6th January 2025.

 

Community Consultation Meeting Dates

The following dates have been set for the second round of community consultation meetings for this year:

Noorama – Monday 25th November

Yowah and Eulo – Wednesday 27th November

Wyandra and Cunnamulla – Thursday 28th November

The Cunnamulla meeting will be scheduled for 5.30pm to enable as many people as possible to attend.

 

Library Award

The Cunnamulla Library has been awarded the Qld Public Library Award for 2024 for libraries with a population of less than 35,000. The award recognises outstanding community service demonstrated through delivery of a program or service. Congratulations to Tammy Hickey and staff on receiving this well-deserved award.

 

Youth Council

The inaugural Youth Council meeting was held in August and one of the suggestions put forward at the meeting was the installation of some drinking bubblers at the John Kerr Park precinct. Council has agreed to the Youth Council’s suggestion and five water bubblers will be installed at various locations within John Kerr Park.

 

TV Transmission in Eulo, Yowah & Wyandra

Due to the maintenance problems being experienced with the existing transmission equipment, Council is investigating alternative methods of providing this service to the towns of Eulo, Yowah & Wyandra. Ratepayers in these towns will be surveyed via letter to ascertain the interest in changing to a different TV transmission system.

 

Fees & Charges

Some additional fees and charges were included in the Register of Cost Recovery Fees for 2024/2025:-

• Declared Menacing Dog registration fee reduction of $50 if desexed

• Parvo Vaccine fee of $50

• List of Tyre Disposal Fees

• All Aboard Entertainment Facility hire fees

Two new policies were adopted and are available on the Council’s website -

• Community Housing Policy

• Recordkeeping, Reporting and Data Breach

 

Human Resources

Council is currently recruiting for an additional works crew to assist in undertaking the extensive roadwork and other tasks scheduled for this year. A total of eight new employees will join the Council workforce shortly, six in the operational area and two in the non-operational (administration) area.
